There was a promise in the marriage of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, which the latter was unable to carry “to the end”.
It was about death: the two had sworn to each other that if one of them had to leave before the other, their spouse would follow. But this has been known for some time: Sharon had written about it in her 2007 memoir Sharon Osbourne Extreme: My Autobiography. There, it was explained that husband and wife would go together to the Swiss association Dignitosa, which deals with euthanasia, in the event that one of them was struck by dementia. Ozzy later said the pact had been expanded to include other terminal or debilitating illnesses, such as Alzheimer's.
In 2023, an episode of the Osbourne podcast featured statements that suggested the pact was still in place.
We arrive at the latent question: why, then, is Sharon Osbourne still with us? She spoke about it herself on Piers Morgan's podcast, Piers Morgan Uncensored. The reason that made her change her mind is threefold, and are the three children she had with Ozzy, Aimee, Jack and Kelly. «I was ready to go with Ozzy, one hundred percent. I did everything I wanted to do. But they were… forgive me, they were incredibly wonderful to me, all of them.”
In addition, he shared a memory: «Years ago I had one of my psychotic episodes, and I went to a clinic to help me get better. There were two girls there – they didn't know each other, but they were there, and both of their mothers had killed themselves. I saw the state they were in, what their mothers' actions had caused their lives. I thought I could never do this to my children.”
“Pain has become my friend,” he continued. “It's strange to love someone so much and feel pain for them. But I have to live with it, I'll get used to it. It will be like this, it must be like this. Things are moving forward.”
