Track will appear on the Australian musician’s upcoming debut LP, The First Time
The Kid Laroi has linked up with Future and BabyDrill for a new song, “What’s the Move?” off his upcoming debut album, The First Time.
With a beat that blends speaker-rattling percussion with dazed synth loops, “What’s the Move?” is as much about getting off the best boasts (“My lifestyle DaVinci,” Future proclaims, “Know my lifestyle expensive”) as it is about yearning for escape. “I’m sick of wasting time,” Laroi sings on the hook, “You know I am/I need some peace of mind/I want leave the country/Baby, come with me, let’s ride.”
“What’s the Move?” arrives just a few days before the release of The First Time, which arrives Nov. 10 and marks the Kid Laroi’s proper debut studio album. The record follows the Australian musician’s breakthrough 2020 mixtape, F*ck Love, which was expanded and reissued several times as the Kid Laroi’s popularity grew thanks to hits like “Without You,” “Go” (featuring Juice WRLD), and especially “Stay,” with Justin Bieber.
The Kid Laroi has been sharing songs from The First Time throughout the year, dropping the album’s first single, “Love Again,” back in January. Since then, he’s also shared “Kids Are Growing Up,” “Where Does Your Spirit Go,” “Too Much” (featuring BTS’ Jung Kook and Central Cee), “What Just Happened,” and “Bleed.” The First Time will also feature additional collaborations with YoungBoy Never Broke Again and Robert Glasper (“Call Me Instead”), as well as D4vd (“The Line”).
Amidst all that, the Kid Laroi also shared one song that won’t appear on the album, “I Guess It’s Love?” It’s also unclear whether the 95-second “I Can’t Go Back to the Way It Was” will appear on the record, as it’s not currently listed as part of the track list (even though it was billed as an “intro”).
