THE White Les (Harry McVeigh, Charles Cave and Jack Lawrence-Brown) have announced their seventh studio album today, Night lightto be released on November 7, 2025 on Play It Again Sam.
After having published previously “Nothing on me“, The London trio shared the new single today”In The Middle“.
Final passage of the disc and also the most overwhelming, In The Middle moves on a rhythm Motorikwith Synth Buttons, undercreased bass and a voice that rises, which culminates in a final instrumental section, overwhelming and guided by an almost telepathic understanding among the musicians.
Speaking of the song, the band said: “The verses of In the Middle were written on Quaderni almost ten years ago, waiting for the right moment, which finally arrived in this hypnotic and unstoppable piece. It is a song that talks about moving: not necessarily to turn the page, but to move to an emotional place necessary to grow. It is also a taste of our musical evolution in this new album, where we really let ourselves go, embracing a more experimental side in the arrangements. And, to avoid misunderstandings, it is a saxophone, not a flute“.”
For Night lightthe White Lies have adopted a new approach: perfect the songs by playing them live before recording. Inspired by the live television show of the 70s The Midnight Specialthe trio has chosen to try the traces in the rehearsal room together, thus reversing the traditional order in which the spirit of the songs is discovered only after bringing them on tour.
Many of the songs were born in the London apartment of McVeigh, focusing on simplicity instead of complex set-ups. The writing and alchemy among the members, refined in 17 years of career, have been at the center of the creative process. In the studio the keyboardist Seth Evans was added, not only as a support but as a real creative collaborator.
During the sessions, the band embraced a live and shared recording mode, playing together to capture a direct and emotional sound. Songs like Nothing on me And All the best show their musical courage, while Everything is ok And Juice They reveal emotional depth and melodic strength.
Night light It crosses sounds ranging from prog rock to the disc, to Synth-Driven landscapes, showing a confident and artistically inspired band. The disc closes with the energetic In The Middlesymbol of their union and artistic maturity.
16 years after its debut, i White Les They finally embraced their identity, signing one of the cohesive and inspired works of their career. As McVeigh reflects:
“We finally know what we are doing.”
From the debut in 2009 with the acclaimed To lose my life …the White Lies have established themselves as one of the main British bands in the alternative rock field: the last two tours recorded the sold out in different dates at the Brixton Academy and the Hammersmith Apollo in London.
