Giampaolo “Pape” Gurioli, a keyboard player for eight years of Jovanotti, collaborator among others by Laura Pausini and Giorgia, died. He was 65 years old.
Studies at the Conservatory, arranger of the charity event Pavarotti & Friends from 1996 to 2000, collaborator for the musical direction of the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics, shared the stage with pop star and jazzists. 50 special of the Lùnapop was recorded in his study in Marradi, the city where he was born. He lived in Faenza, the city of the meeting of independent labels. “I remember when he made me listen to the very first demo of the Lùnapops recorded in his study, reporting me that he would become a large Italian pop group,” recalls Giordano Sangiorgi, patron of Mei.
“He did not make it to withstand the impact of a foolish aneurysm to the abdominal aorta who suddenly arrived three years ago,” his brother Enrico writes on Facebook. «He did not make it yesterday when fate again presented the account of an existence lived for music. The real one, faced by a professional, challenging the laws of common sense wanted by mediocre existence. Pape has never been a trivial being: he hid that real arrogance of the artist in his humble liveliness as a pianist. And it was not a modest village music ready to try in the ravines of the alleys of the native village, ephemeral successes. After his concert created for the President of the Republic of Malta he said with pride: “I do not consider myself a musician but I continue to feel an orchestral”. Maybe he was right: even if I never agreed on his statement. Pape was a real musician; One who fully knew the hidden secret of a keyboard, of an orchestration, of the singing. A virtuoso without a scenic presence. But with a big heart (this yes!) From ancient orchestral, of those who go to sleep when the sun rises ».
“I learned this morning that Pape left, which in the 90s shared stage and recording studios with me playing plan and keyboards with talent and sympathy,” writes Jovanotti in a history of Instagram. «A crazy and unique artist. I send a big hug to his daughter Arianna that he loved. It was by Marradi, land of poets ».
“When an artist dies, a person who has dedicated all his life to an art, not only a person dies but a whole universe dies,” wrote Pier Foschi, drummer of Jovanotti between the 90s and 1900s, as well as a musician called to record 50 special. «The dedication dies, the passion dies, the joy dies, altruism dies, a madness dies. On the other hand, however, what leaves is the same thing that takes away, but centupped ».
Fabrizio Pausini, Laura's father, remembers him as “a great pianist and great friend of our family”.
